Why should I have my dress made, rather than buy an off-the-peg dress?
- My gowns are designed specifically for you, the client
- Your dress will be an exclusive design
- Each dress is individually made to your requirements
- A toile (a mock-up in calico) is made of your dress, to ensure a perfect fit, before it is made up in your chosen fabric
- Complete freedom and flexibility in choice of colours and materials
- Sized perfectly for you, whatever your size and not adjusted from a standard size (after all, who is really a standard size?)
- I work closely with you to make your dream dress come to life.
How much do you charge?
All of my dresses are individual and the price depends on numerous factors:
- The style of the garment and how much work is involved in the style detail
- The kind of fabric used and how much fabric is required
- The embellishment (detail)
- How many fittings are required
My prices start from:
- Wedding dress - £1700
- Evening dress - £1200
- Cocktail dress - £950
- Bridesmaid / Prom dress - £950
- Day wear: dress - £700 • jacket - £600 • skirt - £400
This is a Rough price guide, excluding fabric but take above factors into consideration. It is impossible to give an exact price without discussing your requirements. At your consultation I will sketch ideas, show you fabric samples and then be able to give you an exact costing once we have come up with your style.
Do you do alterations?
Yes. Predominently Wedding Dress alterations and special occasion wear. However if I can’t accommodate you I can recommend other reputable seamstresses.
Do I need an appointment?
Yes. Appointment only, so please phone to arrange a convenient time to come and see me. I am flexible with appointments and I am happy to see clients during the day time, evenings or weekends.
How much time do I need to have my dress made?
Preferably I would like to have 6-9 months notice to make a wedding dress or special occasion outfit but please phone to enquire, as I will try my best to fit you in. See "The Design Process" to see what is involved in having your dress made...
How do I pay for my dress?
Your first consultation is free with no obligation. I ask for a 50% deposit at the toile fitting and the rest of the balance is due on completion of your dress. Alternatively I am happy to take smaller, regular instalments, with the balance due on completion/collection of your dress.
Can you advise me on what styles will flatter my figure?
Yes. I will advise you on styles to flatter your best features and conceal parts of the body that you would rather not emphasize! I always make a toile (calico mock-up) of your garment so that you can see for yourself and be reassured before I cut into the silk fabric.
Can you advise me on what fabric to choose?
Yes. I have an extensive catalogue of fabric samples and I will advise you on the fabric suitable for your style of dress and also the colour best suited for your skin type.

can i come and try your dresses on at your shop?
I don't have a shop!
My garments are all designed individually and made to measure. Contact me if you want a garment made for you and make an appointment to see me in my studio.
However I do have a small collection of ready made boleros and cover-ups at Heritage Brides. If you want to buy an off-the-peg wedding dress or try my boleros please visit Heritage Brides at Hatfield House. I do the alterations for Heritage Brides, so it's likely I'll meet you if you buy your dress here and it needs altering!
